ROONEY LEAVES WHEN THE OVIATION IS LOUDEST
Two fantastic goals at the start of the premier league season with new club Everton, against Stoke City FC and Manchester City FC and ‘Recall Rooney’ has been the shout out from every fan and pundit across England to Gareth Southgate since last weekend’s round of games.
But at 31, former England captain and England’s all-time record goalscorer, with 53 England goals in 119 appearances has retired from international football.
What a timely response to critics who said he was finished as he made subdued appearances for Manchester United last season.
Timed perfectly after receiving another call up for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia, Wayne leaves the international scene after becoming the second player in premier league history to score 200 goals.
The Manchester United top goalscorer of all time was to end his career after next summer’s World Cup in Russia, but has now changed his mind and solely focus on club football with new team, Everton.
Wayne was seven games away from surpassing the England all time record of 125 games set by Peter Shilton.
Rooney had made his debut, and become England’s youngest player at 17 years and 111 days, against Australia in February 2003.
Good luck Wayne and all the best for the future.
