DERBY APPOINT LAMPARD
Derby have appointed former Chelsea great Frank Lampard as their new manager.
The championship team announced his appointment after interviewing 20 applicants for the job.
Lampard, taking on his first managerial role, becomes Derby’s seventh appointment in just over three years.
This is great news as we see another legend ditching the studios of the sport entertainment industry for the reality of football management.
No longer a pundit, now, with real time analysis, player management and high tempo tinkering….
Interesting…….
I believe it’s the right step in management for Lampard, taking over a championship side and not a premiership team
More time would be accorded him and I like some players who have gone straight into the bright lights in the top flight, Lampard has done well for himself.
Kudos to Derby for also giving an untried manager the opportunity and I hope that other clubs would follow suit and create a new wave of the next generation of managers
Lampard, capped 106 times by England, made 649 appearances for Chelsea and is the club’s record goalscorer.
Frank now needs to build a backroom staff thy would be able to deliver on his own style of football.
I wish him all the best….
AND LET’S NOT FORGET STEVEN GERRARD
And as if it is a pact of friendship, Steven Gerrard led the exodus from BT sports studios just a few weeks back with his appointment as Rangers coach
There is no better time for Steve or for Rangers; battered, bruised and tamed by the domination from Celtic FC and Brendan Rogers, both have the opportunity to challenge the Green and whites and Gerrard could well make a name for himself if he wrestles the title or the cup successfully from Celtic
What I’m happy about?
It’s the fact that these talented players can give more to the game by directly affecting a generation of footballers coming through, but on the football pitch, daily, and not in a studio somewhere
Would they both be given the time?
I hope so, and sincerely wish that their managers don’t become trigger happy after a few weeks or months.
It’s the change we’ve been hoping for and I believe they success would make other clubs trust more from their generation, the likes of Dwight Yorke, John Terry, Sol Campbell and even Gary Neville
