In Russia, It’s the Quarter final and we are down to eight: Brazil, France, Uruguay, England, Belgium, Sweden, Croatia and Russia.
So who are the favourites? Which country is likely to lift the cup in Moscow on the 15th?
77 nations have competed in the World Cup from inception in 1930 and Of these countries, only 12 have made it to the final match.
Of the 12, only 8 countries have ever won the World Cup to date!
All eight winners come from two continents; South America and Europe, and that is not about to change this year.
Of the 8 quarter finalists in Russia, 4 have won the cup before, and Brazil is the only country that has participated in every tournament, winning it a record five times.
So why is it that the same teams keep winning?
Is it luck? A habit? A belief? Or are there somethings that these countries have that the others don’t have?
Winning is habit, losing is one as well………..
People trolled the best two players of the past decade, Messi and Ronaldo, after their countries crashed out in their respective second round games, but did we really expect them to lift this World Cup? Perhaps tradition only, suggested that Argentina could win it, after all they’ve been two time winners, but with their current team? No. What about Portugal? A tree seldom makes a forest, and unfortunately for Portugal as well as Argentina, it’s what it is, two stand alone trees.
Even Pele couldn’t do anything in ’66 and Diego couldn’t lift his team to the title in ’90 (okay he got them to the final, but winning that cup would surely have been an injustice)
What about the African teams? High expectations, but once again disappointing. Asia? Well at least Japan showed up and Korea beat Germany.
The interesting fact is that all previous eight winners come from just two continents; South America and Europe. This year in Russia, the winner would also come from Europe or South America.
Of the 8 quarter finalists in Russia, 4 have won the cup before, and Brazil is the only country that has participated in every tournament, winning it a record five times.
I looked through the pages of history and searched deep……………
So what do you need to win the World Cup?
Why do the same countries win it again and again?
